I’m a mom, veteran, artist, folklorist, musician, and writer of folklore-inspired adult romantasy and YA portal fantasy (and the occasional academic article). After graduating from West Point and serving in the Army for ten years as a Military Police officer, I earned a PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures from the University of Virginia. My doctoral dissertation explored narratives of historical warrior women among the Scythians, Slavs, and other Eurasian steppe nomads, who in turn have inspired my fiction writing. I have contributed several articles to academic publications in addition to my current and upcoming novels. When I’m not writing, I can be found racing triathlons, chasing after my son, or providing lead guitar and vocals for the underground metal band Olga's Burning Sparrows.

Melissa Whiteford St. Clair is a poet and social justice advocate. She is the author of three books of poetry, a self-guided workbook, and her poetry has been featured in several anthologies. She was named the “Rise and Shine: What American Means To Me” State Winner by the South Carolina Society of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) with the entry of a photo and accompanying poem.
